Injuries are not uncommon with any type of sport. So, it’s a good idea to find out what injury is inclined to occur in a specific sport and then to do what it takes to avoid it. The truth is, though, that sports injuries can’t always be avoided. Therefore, it’s beneficial to take conscientious care of your body to make getting injured less likely, or less traumatic. The most valuable thing that you can do is to be certain that you have a suitable fitness level prior to beginning to play a sport, such as golf. You may very well keep your body safe from injury if you stick to these general guidelines: Maintain a healthy lifestyle; keep your joints mobile and your muscles limber; warm and stretch your body before to activity; use proper form and good postures while actively playing; allow yourself plenty of cool down and relaxation time.

Golf injuries don’t simply happen to amateurs. Nearly one-third of pro golfers playing in the same time frame are playing injured. Fortunately, all-round good health and fitness can reduce how many injuries you may incur and may possibly deter them completely.

It is vital for you to have effectual body strength in the muscle areas most utilized during golf. However, it’s prudent to make sure your spine is in proper alignment and that it has good mobility before you set out to build muscle strength. A proficient golf swing hinges on your spine’s capacity to adequately move in a rotational action. Back injuries are the most prevalent type of injuries experienced by golfers. Your Sacramento chiropractor will establish that your spine is in proper alignment and that there is effectual movement of the vertebrae. Chiropractic care can go a long way in helping you to avert back injury.

It’s time to strengthen once you’re “straightened.” A safe, injury-free day on the green depends upon your being prepared for your golf game. Golf stretching and flexibility practices will warm up your muscles and make injury them less likely. Whole body range of motion (ROM) exercises will enhance flexibility, fairly quickly, in all parts of the body. In addition, elastic band conditioning offers functional golf range of motion improvements and can increase needed energy in the shoulders, hips and deep muscles of the core. Sports professionals, like your chiropractor, are adding elastic band training to their golf conditioning programs because the bands offer dynamic resistance that regular weight lifting does not offer.

Quite a few golfers suffer from “Golfer’s Elbow” along with back injuries. There is a minor difference between golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow though they are almost identical injuries. Whereas the outside of the upper arm is disturbed in tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow disturbs the inner arm. Golfer’s elbow, like tennis elbow, can be a reaction to a single violent action, such as (in golf) hitting the mat at the driving range or striking a hard fairway surface. Repetitive stress from smaller shocks, however, is generally the protagonist. In addition, it can come upon those who all of a sudden begin to play too much golf. For instance, if those that usually play golf once or twice a month elect to enter into a tournament, they are conceivably at risk for developing the injury.

Golf makes exclusive requirements on the body. Fatigue can be a problem because the game ordinarily lasts longer than many other sports. When the body is fatigued, unhealthy posture and impeded coordination often follow. These two factors combined can produce an assortment of injuries. In addition, as a result of the repetitive swinging of the golf clubs, the shoulder muscles are subject to injury. Just as it is vital for you to stretch and warm up prior to starting your golf game, be sure to rest your body suitable between games.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is, sometimes, a surprising injury connected with golf. But, this injury can be caused by a large number of games of golf played over a number of months constantly since it is a problem that happens due to repetitive stress Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be a severe injury causing incapacitation and sometimes needing surgery. However, if a health professional, such as your chiropractor, discovers it at an early stage, chiropractic care and, frequently, the use of a brace will relieve the problem.

Injuries are assumed to be an inescapable part of life for a good majority golfers. However, a healthy, mobile spine, judicious preparation, specific exercise and muscle conditioning, reaching and maintaining a an appropriate fitness level, and prudent rest and recuperation after your game is over, can assisting in making injuries much less a part of your golfing experience.

Allergies can make our everyday life a misery. Unwelcome symptoms like itchy eyes, a runny nose, sneezing, or a skin rash can be the consequence of a simple walk in the garden, a play date with Fluffy, a shellfish stew, or even something as small as a nut. To make things worse, for some of us allergic reactions can progress from just plain irritating to dangerous and life-threatening as our air passageway becomes constricted and we have a difficult time breathing. It may even seem to you, from time to time, that your environment is a pretty unfriendly place and that the world around you is, in fact, out to get you!

Why does your body react, or rather overreact, to the environment with such an intense allergic reaction while other people appear to be unaffected? It’s a great question. The answer is that some individuals, like you, have a hyperactive immune system that literally “freaks out” when they are confronted with common substances such as pollen, dander, shellfish, or nuts.

Can your chiropractor help with your allergy symptoms? You may be surprised by the answer. Even though chiropractic care doesn’t treat allergies, many individuals notice that they experience ease from their allergy symptoms after receiving chiropractic adjustments. The reason for this is because chiropractic adjustments affect the complete nervous system, including the autoimmune system. When there’s a disruption in the nervous system, in conjunction with other problems, the autoimmune system, whose responsibility it is to assist us in adapting and responding appropriately to our environment, can become under-active or overactive. In the case of your allergies, the problem is the latter. Because chiropractic adjustments reduce or remove disturbances in the nervous system and bring back balance and harmony to the body, the treatments bring that same balance and harmony to the auto-immune system as well. A healthy immune system responds appropriately to commonly named allergens in the environment.

So, as pointed out above, your chiropractor doesn’t actually treat allergies. You could say, rather, that a decrease in your allergies is simply a part of a healthy nervous system. Make an appointment, today, to see your chiropractor and get back into harmony with your environment.

We all know how “irritating” it can be when someone is talking loudly on a cell phone (as long as that person isn’t us!). Honestly, doesn’t it seem as if you can’t even take a quiet walk along the beach or in the park without someone walking by shouting into their cell phone? You could say, in fact, that nowadays the excessive use of cell phones has become a pain in our psyche. Well, the detrimental effects of excessive cell phone use apparently doesn’t stop with “pain in the brain.” A new report outlines the prevalence of “cell phone elbow,” an affliction in which users experience pain and numbness in their elbow due to extensive cell phone use. The idea is similar carpal tunnel syndrome, and the effect on the muscles and tendons concerned is essentially the same except a different nerve is pinched. Instead of being located in the wrist, cell phone elbow (“cubital tunnel syndrome”) cell phone elbow originates in the elbow region and results in pain or numbness in forearms, as well as tingling in pinkie and ring fingers. According to a study from the Cleveland Clinic, doctors are seeing more and more individuals experiencing these symptoms.

What exactly produces the problem? Holding a cell phone to the ear causes the elbow to bend, thereby stretching the nerve between muscles and tendons. When the arm is bent for long periods of time, the nerve gets inflamed. “Repetitive, sustained stretching of the nerve is like stepping on a garden hose,” said Dr. Peter J. Evans, director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Hand and Upper Extremity Center. “With the hose, you’re blocking the flow of water. With the elbow, you’re blocking the blood flow to the nerve, which causes it to misfire and short circuit.” The first symptom of cell phone elbow is usually pain just below the elbow in the forearm. This is usually followed by the sensation of pins and needles in the pinkie and ring finger. In the most severe case those fingers can curl up and become difficult to use.

The good news is that the condition is easily preventable and treatable. Users are simply encouraged to avoid holding their phone in one position for too long in order to reduce the amount of strain on the affected muscles. For those who are already feeling strain, it is advisable to do simple stretches in order to help prevent some of the damage.

And, of course, a quiet walk in the park or along the beach with your cell phone turned off or, better yet, left behind, would not only go along way in reducing cell phone elbow, but it might do a lot to improve the health of your psyche as well!

This study was published in the May issue of the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.
